Rock And Roll To Rock Of Ages
Written and Recorded by Bill Anderson
G
I was born to a Christian country
C
home

And the first songs that I
G
sang
Were the songs of praise and glory

On
D7
Sunday morning when the church bells
G
rang

I sang them first in Sunday School

C
Later on I sang up in the
G
choir
Until one Sunday morning almost without warning

I
D7
realize that wasn't m
G

desire

And that'
C
s when I went from singing Rock of Ages

To singing rock and
G
roll

And my
D7
momma fell down on her knees

And prayed to God to have mercy on his
G
soul

And the
C
elders and the deacons

Tried to get the black sheep back into the
G
fold

The day I went from singing
C
Rock of
G
Ages

To
D7
singing rock and
G
roll
I packed a little bag

And we
C
began to travel all around the
G
world

Our nights were filled with music

And
D7
screaming propositions from the
G
girls
I started rolling cigarettes
C
Drinking beer and loving warm red
G
wine
My momma wrote me letters I tied them all together

Said I'll read €
D7
˜em as soon as I get
G
the

time

We were picking in Chicago

The
C
night the telegram came to the
G
gig

It was from my little sister

And
D7
she said bubba bubba come home
G
quick
Momma's got a fever

And
C
daddy says she surely must be
G
dying
And momma's one request the thing she loves the best

Was to hear you sing the
D7
gospel one more
G
time

And that'
C
s when I went from singing rock and roll

Back to singing Rock of
G
Ages

And the
D7
little country church

Seemed a million miles from the concert
G
stages

And the
C
good Lord wrote my momma's name

In the book of everlasting
G
pages

I finally went from singing
C
rock and
G
roll

To
D7
singing Rock of
G
Ages
C
Cleft for
G
me let me
D7
hide myself in
G
Thee

Yes I
C
finally went from singing rock and roll

Back to singing Rock of
G
Ages

In
D7
the little country church

Seemed a million miles from the concert
G
stages
