G
All our friends are
D7
asking me
G
about

you

They
D7
say I was a fool to let you
G
go

The truth is I had
C
no choice in the
G
matter

C

But I
G
hide my feelings
D7
well so they don't
G
know

If
C
it was up to me I'd stem the tides

And move the highest
G
mountain just to see
F
Your loving
C
smile

a
G
gain

If
C
it was up to me
I'd turn the hands of time back

To the
G
way we used to be

And we'd be
D7
one again if it was up to
G
me

C

They
G
ask me when
D7
we're gettin' back to
G
gether
D7
They don't know it's all out of my
G
hands

Cause I can't help the
C
way that you're not
G
feeling

C

Any
G
more than I can
D7
help the way I
G
am

If
C
it was up to me I'd stem the tides

And move the highest
G
mountain just to see
F
Your loving
C
smile

a
G
gain

If
C
it was up to me
I'd turn the hands of time back

To the
G
way we used to be

And we'd be
D7
one

again

Yes if
C
it was up to me I'd stem the tides

And move the highest
G
mountain just to see
F
Your loving
C
smile

a
G
gain

If
C
it was up to me
I'd turn the hands of time back to

The
G
way we used to be

And we'd be
D7
one

again

If it was up to
G
me

Both this album and its successor, 1991's I Thought It Was You, earned a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. He is known for his neotraditionalist country sound and his frequent recording of ballads.
