G
The cowboy was drunk and braggin'

He told her he had a

wagon

A
C
wagon filled up with gold that he'd stolen

And covered all over with
D7
hay

She cried when she learned
C
what he'd done that
G
day

The
D7
girl who loved the
C
man who robbed the
G
bank

At Santa
D7
Fe and got
G
away
Please take it all back she pleaded

Said his love was all she
G7
needed

But
C
he said I only did it for you

So don't you look at me that
D7
way

Because she loved him
C
so she said
G
okay

The
D7
girl who loved the
C
man who robbed the
G
bank

At Santa
D7
Fe and got
G
away

But
D7
that night while she
C
lay in the arms of her
Em
man

He
D7
talked in his sleep and
C
she discovered his
B7
plan

He
C
talked in his sleep and gave himself
D7
away

When he talked of another
C
girl while waiting in San
B7
Jose
G
With the same loving hands that thrilled him

She picked up his gun and
G7
killed

him

She
C
killed him and threw his gold dust all over his body

Right there where it
D7
lay

She was the only
C
mourner there that
G
prayed

The
D7
girl who shot the
C
man who robbed the
G
bank

At Santa
D7
Fe and got
G
away
