C
I watched an auction take place today

The
Dm
bank sold the
F
farm where
G7
I was raised
C
I heard the echo of the auctioneer

And my
A#7
heart traveled
F
back across the
G7
years

But daddy
C
stood there just as proud as any man could be

While
Dm
watching strangers
C
bidding on his
G7
memories
C
Only time I saw him even hang his head

Is when they
A#7
sold his and
F
momma's favorite
G7
bed

They
C
auctioned off daddy's farm
F
today
G7
One by one they hauled his dreams
C
away
F
They

G7
sold

C
everything but the flowers from
F
momma's

grave
C

They
G7
auctioned off my daddy's farm
C
today
Well the last three years the weather took the crops

And the
Dm
checks that the government
F
sent just
G7
up and stopped

When you're
C
young and strong you can find ways to survive

But you
A#7
know it ain't that
F
easy when you
G7
just turn sixty-five
Repeat #3
C
Yes

G7
they

C
auctioned off daddy's farm
F
today
G7
One by one they hauled his dreams
C
away
F
They

G7
sold

C
everything but the flowers from
F
momma's

grave
C

They
G7
auctioned off my daddy's farm
C
today

Tell me how much did you
F
pay for grandma's
C
bible
