C
First impressions aren't always the ones to go by

There's no way to tell by lookin' a diamond's
G7
worth

So when
C
I met you I thought I'd met an
F
angel

But every
C
thing you
G7
touched turns to
C
hurt

Every
F
thing you touch turns to
C
hurt

There's no
F
pain like the pain I feel each
G7
time you flirt

You
C
say I'm your world your every
F
thing

But every
C
thing you
G7
touch turns to
C
hurt
I don' t know what I can do to make you happy

Wish I could keep you from playin' in the
G7
dirt

You're
C
destined to wind up alone and
F
lonely

Cause every
C
thing you
G7
touch turns to
C
hurt

Every
F
thing you touch turns to
C
hurt

There's no
F
pain like the pain I feel each
G7
time you flirt

You
C
say I'm your world your every
F
thing

But every
C
thing you
G7
touch turns to
C
hurt

He achieved his greatest success in the 1970s as a force in country music's "outlaw movement" popularized by artists Hank Williams Jr., Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver, and Merle Haggard. In the 1980s, his music career slowed due to drug, alcohol and legal problems. He served a prison sentence in the early 1990s and his declining health effectively ended his career in early 2000. In 1980, Paycheck appeared on the PBS music program Austin City Limits (season 5).
