Recorded by George Jones and Tammy Wynette
Written by Mark Sherrill and Duke Goff
[C]Well just across the street from our [F]little three room [C]shack
There’s a mansion that [G7]reaches the [C]sky
With at least a dozen rooms and a [F]great big swimming [C]pool
Two sport cars and [G7]three long Cadil[C]lac’s
[F]And the only thing I own is a [C]broken down old Ford
Half the time it won’t even [G7]start
[C]But you’re won’t hear us fighting at [F]four in the [C]morning
Calling names to [G7]break each other’s [C]hearts
So they can [F]have it we don’t need it
Let them keep it and call it their [G7]own
[C]Living that kind of life is [F]not for you and [C]me
We got love and [G7]love is all we [C]need
I’ve never tired of wearing that [F]same old shaggy [C]dress
One I bought down at the dollar [G7]store
[C]Well if I watch every dime I spend and I [F]save every stamp I [C]can
Just get the things [G7]I know we can [C]afford
[F]And every afternoon I [C]sit upon the porch
Watch them as they pass through those [G7]gates
[C]I may wonder what it’s like to [F]be a fancy [C]lady
But I always have a [G7]smile on my [C]face

Who is Tammy Wynette?
– Tammy Wynette (born Virginia Wynette Pugh May 5, 1942 – April 6, 1998) was an American country music singer-songwriter and musician and was one of country music’s best-known artists and biggest-selling female singers.
Wynette was called the “First Lady of Country Music”, and her best-known song, “Stand by Your Man”, is one of the best-selling hit singles by a woman in the history of country music. Many of her hits dealt with themes of loneliness, divorce, and the difficulties of life and relationships. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Wynette charted 20 number-one songs on the Billboard Country Chart. Along with Loretta Lynn, Lynn Anderson, and Dolly Parton, she is credited with having defined the role of women in country music during the 1970s.
Wynette’s marriage to country music singer George Jones in 1969 created a country music “couple”, following the earlier success of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Though they divorced in 1975, the couple recorded a sequence of albums and singles together that hit the charts throughout the 1970s and early 1980s.
