The Dogs They Really Miss You
Recorded by Lounge Lizards
Written by Hank Card
C
I know the day you left you said let's never talk
F
again

But I'm not calling
C
for myself
D7
I'm calling for
G7
them
C
Our little ones who wait at home
C7
heartbroken and
F
upset

And though they don't
C
remember much they
G7
can't seem to
C
forget

The dogs they really miss you

They're different since you said
F
goodbye

They brood they pout they
C
feel put out

If they could
D7
speak they'd tell you
G7
hi
C
They're too down to play around

They've
C7
hardly touched their
F
meals

The dogs they really
C
miss

you

And I
G7
know just how they
C
feel

Their
G7
tails won't wag their hearts won't heal

They blame
F
themselves that you're a
C
stray
G7
They're sorry that you felt tied down
F
And never learned to
G7
stay

Molly's nose is warm and dry

Since she
F
sat and watched you
C
pack

She
D7
figures that you must be lost

And can't find your way
G7
back

C

And
G7
Scooter's just a basket case

He
F
won't accept my
C
calls

His
D7
squeaky toy lies silent

He's lost interest in his
G7
balls

The
C
dogs they really miss you

They're not them
C7
selves since you're not
F
here

They sleep all day watch
C
TV all night

They
D7
drink way too much
G7
beer

They've
C
seen Old Yeller forty times

They
C7
bathe less than they
F
should

The dogs they've stopped
C
their poker games

Hoping
G7
you'll come home for
C
good

You know how they hate to beg

But the
C7
dogs are really
F
blue

Because they really
C
miss

you

And you
G7
know that I do
F
too

wa-wa-wa-
C
ooooh

Who is The Austin Lounge Lizards?
- The Austin Lounge Lizards are a musical group from Austin, Texas, formed in 1980. The band includes founding members Hank Card and Conrad Deisler, along with Tim Wilson and Kirk Williams. The third founding member, Tom Pittman, retired from the band in the spring of 2011.
The band started out experimenting with folk, but was still heavily country in its style, combining the bluegrass form with which Pittman was familiar with the progressive-themed folk rock to which Card and Deisler had been accustomed. Between the members, a large number of different instruments have been played, including a rich variety of string instruments such as the banjo, mandolin, and fiddle.
The band got its name because, Deisler explained, "I think it was a slang term I'd heard my grandmother use to describe gentlemen of easy virtue who hung around in bars. When we started out, that's just what we were doing—hanging out and playing for beer and tips and stuff like that." The Austin Lounge Lizards began by playing covers, but eventually they wanted to move towards trying to write their own songs.
