Tennessee Girl Song Lyrics and Chords by Charlie Pride

Tennessee Girl
Recorded by Charley Pride
Written by Ben Peters
C
Well I left home at a
F
crack of dawn
G7
just about a year
C
ago

I thumbed my way cross the
F
USA and I
G7
learned a lot I didn't
C
know

The Promised Land that I
F
thought I'd find was
G7
always just ahead of
C
me

Until one day when I
F
realized I
G7
left it back in
C
Tennessee

And that's why I'm going back to my
G7
Tennessee

girl

And a
F
Tennessee way of
C
life

And I'm gonna ask my
G7
Tennessee

girl

To
F
be my Tennessee
C
wife

By night I slept in a
F
hobo camp
G7
working odd jobs by
C
day

I never got enough to
F
get ahead
G7
just enough to make my
C
way

Cold and tired when the
F
evening comes
G7
all I had to ease my
C
mind

Was thinking bout the place
F
I started from
G7
and the girl that I left
C
behind
Repeat #2

There ain't no place that I
F
been at all
G7
that I was gonna settle
C
in

And every town that
F
I travel through made
G7
me wanna go home
C
again

The green green grass and the
F
rolling hills
G7
seem to keep a calling
C
me

Back to the place where
F
I was born and the
G7
girl that I long to
C
see
Repeat #2
