I Wasted A Nickel Last Night
Recorded by Hawkshaw Hawkins
written by Shorty Long and Bob Newman
G
I put a nickel in the telephone
C
To find out dear if you'd be home
D7
I wasted a nickel last
G
night
I guess I've wished a million times
C
It hadn't been a party line
D7
I wasted a nickel last
G
night

I
C
heard you tell a friend of mine
G
That I was not the one
A7
Why did you play me for a fool
D7
So you could have your fun
G
If I had known it from the start
C
It might have saved a broken heart
D7
The nickel I wasted last
G
night
I lost a nickel but I lost much more
C
It seems I hear it o'er and o'er
D7
I wasted a nickel last
G
night
My castles have all fallen down
C
I saw them tumble to the ground
D7
A nickel changed it all last
G
night

But
C
someday when your world gets lonely
G
And your friends are few
A7
The door of love is open dear
D7
I'm waiting here for you
G
A nickel has it's story told
C
Of love not worth its weight in gold
D7
I wasted a nickel last
G
night
