pickin' singin'
G
folk

group

They
C
sang the mountain
G
ballads and the folk songs of our
D7
land

They were
G
long on musical
G7
ability folks
C
thought they would go
G
far

But
C
political

incompatibili

led to their down
G
fall

Well the
C
one on the right was
G
on the left

And the
D7
one on the middle was
G
on the right

And the
C
one on the left was
G
in the middle

And the
D7
guy in the rear was a
G
Methodist

This musical agg
G7
regation

C
toured the entire
G
nation

Singing
C
traditional

G
ballads and the folk songs of our
D7
land

They per

formed with great virtuo
G7
sity and
C
soon they were the
G
rage

But
C
political

animosi

ty
D7
prevailed upon the
G
stage

Well the
C
one on the right was
G
on the left

And the
D7
one on the middle was
G
on the right

And the
C
one on the left was
G
in the middle

And the
D7
guy in the rear burned his driver's
G
license

When the curtain had
G7
ascended a
C
hush fell on the
G
crowd

As
C
thousands there were
G
gathered to hear the folk songs of our
D7
land

But they
G
took their politics
G7
seriously
C
And that night at the concert
G
hall

As the
C
audience watched deli
G
riously

D7
they had a free for
G
all

Well the
C
one on the right was
G
on the bottom

And the
D7
one on the middle was
G
on the top

And the
C
one on the left got a
G
broken

arm

And the
D7
guy on his rear said oh
G
dear

Now this should be a
G7
lesson

C
if you plan to start a
G
folk

group
C
Don't go mixing
G
politics with the folk songs of our
D7
land

Just
G
work on harmony and
G7
diction

C
play your banjo
G
well

And if
C
you have political
G
conviction

D7
keep 'em to
G
yourself

Now the
C
one on the left works
G
in the bank

And the
D7
one on the middle
G
drives a truck

The one
C
on the right's an
G
all night DJ

And the
D7
guy in the rear got
G
drafted

Who is Johnny Cash?
- John R. Cash (born J. R. Cash February 26, 1932 - September 12, 2003) was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. Much of Cash's music contained themes of sorrow, moral tribulation, and redemption, especially in the later stages of his career. He was known for his deep, calm bass-baritone voice, the distinctive sound of his Tennessee Three backing band characterized by train-like chugging guitar rhythms, a rebelliousness coupled with an increasingly somber and humble demeanor, free prison concerts, and a trademark all-black stage wardrobe which earned him the nickname "The Man in Black".Born to poor cotton farmers in Kingsland, Arkansas, Cash rose to fame in the burgeoning rockabilly scene in Memphis, Tennessee, after four years in the Air Force. He traditionally began his concerts by simply introducing himself, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash", followed by "Folsom Prison Blues", one of his signature songs. Alongside "Folsom Prison Blues", his other signature songs include "I Walk the Line", "Ring of Fire", "Get Rhythm", and "Man in Black". He also recorded humorous numbers like "One Piece at a Time" and "A Boy Named Sue", a duet with his future wife June called "Jackson" (followed by many further duets after their wedding), and railroad songs such as "Hey, Porter", "Orange Blossom Special", and "Rock Island Line". During the last stage of his career, he covered songs by contemporary rock artists of the time his most notable covers were "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails, "Rusty Cage" by Soundgarden and, "Personal Jesus" by Depeche Mode.
Cash is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 90 million records worldwide. His genre-spanning music embraced country, rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk, and gospel sounds. This crossover appeal earned him the rare honor of being inducted into the Country Music, Rock and Roll, and Gospel Music Halls of Fame.
