F
Was it bitter then with our backs against the
C
wall
G7
Were we better men than we'd ever been
C
before
F
Say if she came again today would you still answer to the
C
call
G7
Tell the truth my friend don't it matter any
C
more
F
We were simple men by her side when she was
C
born
G7
It was simple then like the freedom when you
C
fall
F
And we were smaller then you see

But soon we gathered like a
C
storm
G7
They don't understand what that thunder meant at
C
all
F
Was he crucified was he done in by the
C
law-men
G7
Are you satisfied that he'll never ride
C
again
F
Some people say he got away they say he never died at
C
all
G7
If that story's true does it bother you my
C
friend
F
Was it bitter then with our backs against the
C
wall
G7
Were we better men than we'd ever been
C
before
F
Say if she came again today would you still answer to the
C
call
G7
Tell the truth my friend don't it matter any
