I'll Be True To You
Recorded by the Oak Ridge Boys
Written by Alan Rhody
C
They

G7
met upon a
F
blue

moon
C
And they
G7
parted on a
F
cloudy

day
C
They were
G7
so in love and
F
out of school
A#7
But he was
F
going so
G7
far far away

She said
C
I'll be
G7
true to
F
you
C
Even

G7
though you don't
F
want me to

And
C
I'll be
G7
blue for
F
you
C
Even

G7
though you've asked me
F
not

to

Well the
C
year's drifted
G7
by them as we
F
all know they can
C
He found other
G7
women but she
F
refused other men
C
But as fate
G7
would have it
F
they met again
A#7
She was on a
F
down-hill slide and
G7
he was just sliding in

As he
C
looked into her
G7
eyes that night he
F
never

realized
C
The only real love
G7
in his life
F
was passing by
C
When he
G7
turned and left her
F
there his words goodbye
A#7
He heard her calling
F
out to him and
G7
as he walked she cried
C
I've been
G7
true to
F
you
C
Seems like
G7
speaking to me is the
F
least that you could do

And
C
I've been
G7
blue for
F
you
C
Even

G7
though you've asked me
F
not

to

She'd been
C
drinking way too hard one night

She'd
G7
been drinking way too
F
long
C
Alone and pale in a
G7
cheap hotel she
F
died there in the dawn
C
Kneeling by her
G7
grave oh so
F
late and oh so wrong
A#7
He longed to hold her
F
close again
G7
crying on and on

He cried
C
I'll

G7
be true to
F
you
C
After

G7
all that I have
F
put you through
C
And I'll
G7
be blue for
F
you
C
Though

G7
you never even asked
F
me

to
